CBD extracts, as the name suggests, are a powerful extract of the hemp plant that contains a high percentage (strength in %) of Cannabidiol (CBD). Cannabidiol extracts are available in different shapes, colours and textures. The most well-known form is the CBD paste.

As high extracts (high percentages %) of specific cannabinoids are readily available nowadays, inexperienced users are generally advised to exercise caution and restraint when using strong CBD extracts.

Equally important is a good basic knowledge and understanding of cannabinoids.

Taking these precautions and reading the correct information can go a long way in improving the therapeutic profile of cannabis extracts, as well as spreading awareness regarding the correct dosage of CBD extracts.

At Nordic Oil, creating awareness, educating people and making CBD more accessible is at the forefront of our ethos. This is reflected in our high-quality and innovative CBD extracts.

We encourage you to take the time to research, understand CBD oil and make informed decisions when buying Nordic Oil CBD in high concentrations.

Down below is a detailed overview of our CBD extracts.

What are CBD extracts?

A CBD extract is the essence of the cannabis sativa plant or hemp plant. Extracts have a strong intensity and contain high potency cannabidiol (CBD). You could say they are the condensed form of extracts extracted from the cannabis plant. The amount of CBD present in extracts is also usually higher than in other CBD products, such as CBD oil with hemp seed oil.

Let's simplify this further now to clear up any misconceptions about concentrates in general. For example, we can make a comparison with coconut milk concentrate; this is the thick, creamy content extracted from coconuts. Coconut extracts exist in different forms due to different extraction and production methods. The concept of making cannabis extracts is very similar, where desired forms and potencies of cannabinoids are extracted using different methods.

It is well known that hundreds of cannabinoids are found in the cannabis plant alone, and specific extraction methods have been developed to target unique compounds.

The resulting extract can therefore be a broad spectrum, a full spectrum, or an isolated (isolate) form of CBD.

Different types of cannabis extracts

So far, we have learnt that a highly potent extract of cannabis is called a concentrate. We know that specific extraction methods are used to extract the desired properties and benefits from different parts of the hemp plant. The result is a wide range of viscosities, starting from liquids and ranging to solids. Examples of popular types of concentrates include Shatter, Wax, Oil, Crumble, Distillate, Rosin, Kief, Budder, etc.

Different types of CBD concentrates.

We have already talked about the broad types of cannabis concentrates. When it comes to CBD concentrates, there are three types.

Full spectrum CBD: Concentrates of CBD are extracted using all the active ingredients in the plant. This helps to enhance the overall effect of all cannabinoids and terpenes. With this type of CBD extract, the positive effect of the cannabis plant is expressed in a much more pronounced and accentuated way - this is known as the 'entourage effect'. As the THC potency remains below the legal threshold of 0.2%, there is no risk of psychoactive effects.

Broad spectrum CBD: Concentrates of CBD are extracted from the entire range of naturally occurring compounds, with the exception of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Like full-spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum also gives an entourage effect due to the combined action of the various cannabis compounds.

CBD Isolate: CBD isolate is a crystalline powder form of CBD in its purest form. Nowadays often sold as CBD crystals. After all active ingredients of cannabis are removed by extraction, further refinement of other plant material leaves a pure form called CBD isolate.

CBD concentrates come in the form of CBD crystals, CBD oils, CBD paste and CBD tinctures. They can also be added to other substances for more specific purposes.

What is CBD paste?

As compared to CBD oil, CBD paste is a concentrated, highly potent formulation of CBD. Usually, pastes contain MCT oil or coconut oil as carrier oil. With CBD oil, for example, the carrier oil is hemp seed oil.

Some CBD users may opt for a very potent dose of CBD simply because they feel comfortable using cannabinoids or find this higher dose more suitable for their needs. For them, the usual dietary supplements are just too low. Hence, CBD extracts in the form of a CBD paste are available in strengths ranging from CBD paste 30% to CBD paste 50%, to meet this demand.

CBD paste is a much thicker liquid compared to CBD oil. Also much darker. Therefore, it comes with a suitable dispenser that allows accurate dosing. To ensure optimal absorption of CBD into the bloodstream, place the paste under your tongue, or sublingually (from the Latin for "under the tongue")

What are CBD crystals, CBG crystals and how do they work?

Cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabigerol (CBG) are non-psychoactive constituents of the Cannabis Sativa plant.

Our CBD crystals consist of 99.6% pure, isolated cannabidiol and 0.4% cannabidivarin (CBDV). It is a fine white powder in its purest form with no terpenes, flavonoids or THC.

Our CBG crystals are isolates of 97% pure cannabigerol and 3% cannabidivarin. It is a fine brown powder in its purest form with no terpenes, flavonoids or THC.

You can use CBD isolates sublingually or mix them in food, dietary supplements or drinks. You can also use CBD isolates to make topical applications (CBD ointment or CBD cream).

Advantages of CBD crystals (Isolates)

Without THC - The main feature of isolates is that users can benefit from CBD without the fear or risk of combined effects with other cannabinoids, such as THC. Isolates are the purest form of CBD and contain zero per cent THC.

Easy to use - The powdered form of CBD or CBG is suitable for consumption in multiple ways. CBD concentrated in the form of isolates can be taken sublingually or mixed with food or drinks. In addition, some people like to mix CBD crystals into essential body oils, dietary supplements, CBD cream or other cosmetic products, which is a good example of how they can also be adapted for topical application.

What is a CBD distillate?

The distillate is the most refined extract of cannabis and undergoes numerous purification processes. CBD distillate contains all the active components of the entire cannabis sativa plant, including terpenes and other cannabinoids - similar to the full spectrum (Full Spectrum). But CBD distillate also undergoes an additional step in the extraction process, namely the process of removing THC. Therefore, a distillate can also be called a broad spectrum.

CBD distillates are also suitable for making dietary supplements.

Can you get high from CBD extracts?

CBD extracts are not psychoactive and will not make you stoned or high.

While cannabis extracts extracted from different marijuana strains containing high amounts of THC can get you high. Nowadays, THC oil or cannabis oil is very popular in the Netherlands. It is important to know that cannabis oil is not legal in the Netherlands, and thus not suitable for online sales. So it is important to know that there is a significant difference between cannabis oil and CBD extracts, such as CBD paste.

Besides the high or stoned feeling, however, users should also consider the expected desired effects of switching to extracts. Because different concentrates can vapourise at different temperatures, it is important to know well how to handle more complex cannabis concentrates.

How do you handle CBD extracts?

Although extracts sound simple, handling the different types of cannabis consistencies does require a certain amount of expertise.

While CBD pastes or CBD isolates are relatively easy to consume, using concentrates in wax and other forms is complicated, especially given the rising trends for 'dabbing'. Dabbing, what exactly is that? Simply put, a CBD dab is a CBD concentrate derived from the marijuana plant. Unlike other CBD products that mix the CBD extract with other ingredients, such as hemp seed oil, CBD dabs are extremely pure.

Handling the extract and transferring the right amount, choosing a standard dabbing  and using the tools to make it should all be done with caution. In fact, this can be quite dangerous work.

Please note! Many amateurs like to try making their own extracts or dabs. However, this can lead to poisoning or in the worst case, explosions.

This is why it is advised to experience the positive effects of cannabinoids by using safe methods and high-quality CBD products.

What are the benefits of concentrates?

For most CBD users, the benefits of concentrates can include purity, higher strengths and faster onset time.

The legitimate purity and potency of extracts can only really be considered for CBD concentrates that are manufactured with standard extraction processes and undergo regular quality control. CBD users who can handle very potent CBD extracts, and those who need higher efficacy to treat a medical condition, can opt for CBD extracts, such as CBD paste. Moreover, oral administration and vaping provide faster onset time and higher absorption.

CBD extracts and side effects

In general, no negative side effects have been reported when using CBD paste or other types of extracts. However, on a case-by-case basis, one may experience drowsiness, changes in appetite, or changes in weight. Again, these reactions can vary based on age, eating habits, metabolism, lifestyle, health status and the other medications taken regularly.

For people suffering from a pre-existing ailment or health condition, get into the habit of talking to your GP or medical provider first about including CBD in your daily wellness routine.
