CBD Basic knowledge

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are both cannabinoids, sisters of the cannabis plant. CBD comes from hemp. Hemp is one of the oldest crops in the world and has been used for thousands of years for the production of clothing and paper. THC, on the other hand, is found in high amounts in marijuana and hashish, so they are intoxicants. Basically, THC is psychotropic, but CBD is not. This means that CBD does not induce a high.

CBD has many more uses than THC. CBD is effective as a dietary supplement or for cosmetic purposes and is freely available in the Netherlands. CBD oil does not contain any animal ingredients or animal products and is therefore vegan. The popularity of CBD oil, also known as cannabidiol oil, is growing rapidly in the Netherlands and more and more people are discovering the versatile benefits of CBD.

Even better news is that our CBD oil contains less than 0.2% THC, which means there is no psychoactive effect. In the Netherlands, only cannabidiol oil with a THC content of less than 0.2% is legal to buy and sell.

What is Full Spectrum CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is made from hemp. The hemp plant contains very little THC and is therefore the most suitable plant for making CBD. In the Netherlands, the THC content in CBD oil is regulated by law; all CBD oil must not contain more than 0.2% THC.

Due to the low THC content, CBD products are not psychoactive or intoxicating, so they can be taken without concern. The nutritional supplements provide the body with important nutrients and support overall health and well-being, especially when combined with a healthy diet.

What are the effects of CBD?

Disappointed by the limited possibilities with conventional medicines, more and more people are turning to alternative solutions. Herbal remedies, natural remedies, and CBD have all proven popular for pain management.

The positive reviews about CBD are plentiful. Since using CBD, people who had almost given up hope of finding the right treatment for them are now seeing their conditions improve and their confidence skyrocketing. CBD helps them heal and their satisfaction is evident.

CBD oil also contains omega-3 fatty acids, omega-6 fatty acids and gamma-linolenic acid, all of which have a positive effect on blood pressure and the appearance of the skin. It contains vitamin E in large amounts, as well as riboflavin and vitamin B1. Finally, important trace elements such as iron, potassium, calcium, copper, manganese, magnesium, sodium, phosphorus and zinc are naturally present in the oils.

The use of CBD oil as a dietary supplement has little to no unwanted side effects.

The use of CBD is not recommended for children and for women during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you use omeprazole or diazepam at the same time, consult your doctor before using CBD products.

Scientists have discovered that the body is able to produce cannabinoids on its own. If the endocannabinoid level is too low, it can no longer positively influence the body's functions. The same goes for pets, which also have their own endocannabinoid system.

Side effects of CBD

If CBD oil is used properly, there should be no side effects. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when you start using CBD oil, especially if you are a beginner.

Taking too large a dose at any one time can cause diarrhoea, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite and excessive tiredness in extreme cases. People who know they are very sensitive should keep a close eye on their body when taking CBD for the first time, because unwanted reactions can always occur, even if the CBD oil is completely organic.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should generally refrain from using CBD oil, as long-term studies are not yet available. Furthermore, people who use antacids such as omeprazole should discuss the use of CBD oil with their doctor. Interactions can also occur between CBD oil and diazepam, which is why it is essential to consult a doctor before using CBD oil.

In several studies, no major side effects of CBD oil have been observed, even at very high doses. However, no long-term studies have been done on the side effects, so scientists cannot make a definitive statement here. What is certain is that there is absolutely no toxic reaction when taking CBD oil.

CBD oil vs CBD capsules - which is better?

Many people buy the capsules instead of the oil, because of the strong hemp taste. However, it takes longer for the body to release the effects of the capsules (1 to 2 hours). The effect of the capsules lasts between 6-10 hours. The oil, on the other hand, is absorbed by the body after only 15-20 minutes, but the effect only lasts for 4-6 hours. Many people choose the oil because it is easier to control the dose as needed. While the capsules have a higher individual dose, which can make it a little more difficult to regulate. The capsules are of course more practical than the oil because you can easily take them with you on the go. So there are pros and cons to both products. In the end, you just have to decide what the right product is for you.

How does CBD work in the body?

The human cell system is based on the continuous renewal of cells. In a continuous process, cells die to make way for new cells. There is a so-called endocannabinoid system in the human body. This means that receptors exist in our body that are primed for the ingestion of cannabinoids, and can recognize and respond to them; these are called CB1 and CB2 receptors. The CB1 receptor, in particular, is thought to be central to the brain regions that control memory and movement. The CB2 receptor has a major influence on the immune system.

Can you take too much CBD?

CBD cannot be "overdosed", studies have also shown that up to 80mg per day is well tolerated. However, if you start too early on a high dose, you may experience some rare CBD side effects. These include symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, or dry mouth. However, any side effects should usually go away after some time.
